Buttons of the Wilson era are not as creative or colorful as buttons from previous elections. A major issue in 1916 was World War I, which was brewing in Europe. America had yet to enter the war, thanks to Wilson’s leadership, and Wilson was touted as a peacemaker by the Democrats. Many 1916 buttons reflect variations of the peace/anti-war theme. The threat of war presumably made buttons of this era lose a little bit of their flash and bite. Jugates will be priced higher than Portraits.
