The Teapot Dome scandal occurred under during President Harding’s term before his death. Basically, one of Harding’s cabinet members was convicted of leasing petroleum reserves to oil companies at a very low cost. One of these reserves was at a location known as Teapot Dome in Wyoming. This was a big deal during this time, and, naturally, the Democrats wished to capitalize on the scandal to get their candidate elected. Buttons alluding to this event often have a teapot on them or say something like “Don’t Forget Dome”.
