The 1932 Election saw the incumbent candidate Herbert Hoover struggling against the Great Depression, which had gripped the country for most of his term. Democratic governor Franklin Roosevelt promised to change things with his New Deal ideology. Accordingly, many of the more unusual buttons from this time deal with slogans related to the Depression. Hoover’s camp urges voters with the old proverb “Don’t Swap Horses in the Middle of the Stream” – or, keep Hoover in office.
