Thomas Dewey had a tough battle in 1944, as WW2 was coming to an end and many Americans felt allegiance to F.D.R. for leading them through. Dewey ran again in 1948 against Harry Truman, who had become president after F.D.R.’s death in 1945. Dewey was largely expected to win against Truman. There are very few Portrait items and very few jugates from the 1944 election. Jugates from the 1948 election are more readily available.
