When the Roosevelts took residence in the White House, the State service ordered by Woodrow Wilson was still in use. Though this was a popular service that had been reordered and reused by subsequent Presidents, there were not enough pieces left to make it usable, and Mrs. Roosevelt decided to order a new service. There was a bit of an outcry about the order since the country was in a depression. Lenox manufactured the set. This service features plates with two borders, one of gold stars against a blue background and the other of a rose motif. Part of a Roosevelt family crest was thus incorporated. The Presidential Seal also appears on every item.
