Shell medalets were again used in this campaign. The first photographs of candidates also begin to appear during this campaign. Daguerreotypes were the first variety, then guerreotypes, then ambrotypes, then tintypes. Pictures designed to be hung on one’s person, therefore, became popular. Buttons and ribbons remained popular items. Many items reflect Taylor’s nickname – “Old Rough and Ready”.
