Ulysses S Grant

Born:1822
Died:1885
Political Party:Republican
Offices Held:President (1869 - 1877)
Ulysses S. Grant was very popular for his role as commanding general of the Union Army. Collectors will find that his involvement in the war is an overarching theme of much of the memorabilia related to him. Buttons and shell badges remained popular during Grant’s Presidential campaign. Many items carried a post-civil war theme of peace and promotion of Grant's leadership during war. As far as written documents and signed materials, a large number of available Grant documents are dated from the Civil War era, when he would have understandably been more prolific as a writer. Some of these documents may be very interesting to collectors because of their description of or importance to the war. One set of items that is decidedly unmasculine and non-military: Grant’s beautiful floral state china service. Unfortunately, however, china pieces very rarely see the market. Ulysses S. Grant Presidential China Signature
Grant preferred to write his own letters. His letters are a bit hard to read and are signed U.S. Grant. A large number of his documents are dated from the Civil War era, when he would have understandably been more prolific as a writer. Some of these documents may be very interesting to collectors because of Grant\'s status as a civil war hero.
